Residents ransack NMC zonal office

NAGPUR: A group of angry residents from east Nagpur

ransacked the Lakadganj zone office of Nagpur Municipal Corporation here on Tuesday afternoon. The residents were protesting

against irregular water supply in the area for last one year.

Sources said, "More than 100 residents, including

women, of east Nagpur area, reportedly led by Congress corporator Nana Zode barged into Lakadganj zonal office of NMC at

around 12 noon. They smashed glasses, overturned furniture and damaged office equipment. They even tried to set afire the

office furniture."

Talking to TOI , Nana Zode said, "Some areas under the Lakadganj zone didn't receive regular

water supply for last few days. That provoked the residents."

These areas get drinking water supply on alternate

days. But of late irregular supply has become regular feature here and it provoked the residents, who were mainly from Quetta

colony. Some women also gathered outside the office but they didn't do any damage, the sources further

said.

The city has witnessed many incidents of irate residents resorting to such protests in last few

years.

However the Nagpurians' long pending pleas fell on the deaf ears of the NMC officials as they remained

unmoved.
