NAGPUR: For the first time in the history of NMC, a
sitting mayor along with 16 corporators was disqualified in a single year after the caste scrutiny and verification committee
rejected their claim of belonging to scheduled tribe category. All these corporators were elected from the wards reserved for
ST candidates.
Deorao Umredkar, after enjoying 101 days tenure as the first citizen of Nagpur, was disqualified
after his caste certificate was rejected. Eight others — Sanjay Pimprikar, Pushpa Pathrabe, Sharad Bhanarkar, Vilas Parate
(BJP), Parshuram Bokade, Bhimrao Nandanwar, Bhaskar Burde (Shiv Sena) and Jaymala Barapatre (Congress) — too met a similar
fate.
Recently, the scheduled tribes caste committee had invalidated the caste claims of seven corporators,
while one corporator has already been disqualified for submitting a fake caste certificate.
The seven
corporators whose claims as ST candidate were rejected by the committee were Jitendra Mohadikar from Mehandibagh (ward No.
25) , Jijabai Dhakate from Naik Talao (35), Ashwin Anjikar from Timki (53), Vitthalrao Hedau from Lendi Talao (55), Gajanan
Bhanarkar from Bastarwari (56), Rajesh Bokde from Maskasath (64) and Premlal Bhandakkar from Old Mangalwari (73), while
Ibrahimbhai Chudiwale, Congress corporator from Hasanbagh (97), has already been disqualified after his caste certificate was
found to be fake one.
