Board expects better results this time

NAGPUR: Students appearing for the SSC and HSC

examinations can afford a smile following Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education's decision to

award 20 per cent compulsory assessment marks in 'killer' subjects like Mathematics and English.

As a result,

the state board expects better results this year, sources said. Last year, Nagpur division fared worst among eight divisions

of the board with 46.75 per cent with over 62,000 students failing to clear mathematics and English exams.

When

contacted, board's Nagpur division chairman Shridhar Salunkhe hoped that the results would improve despite the new syllabus.

Sources said the board took the decision last year and implemented with the new syllabus from the academic year

2007-08.

Ramesh Surve, lecturer, Bhausaheb Surve Vidyalaya told ToI that the board's decision to award

assessment marks would prove a boon for the students. Surve, however, cautioned that the students had to study hard to get

good marks in internal assessment.
