Naxals kill 2 surrendered colleagues

CHANDRAPUR: Incensed by the large number of naxals

who have surrendered in the recent past, a group of rebels on Monday killed two of their former colleagues who had recently

surrendered before the administration and were living peacefully in Kondewahi village of Etapally

tehsil.

Sources said that the naxal movement in the district has received a severe setback after a large number

of naxals from Etapalli tehsil laid down their arms in the past two months. Many villages have declared Naxalbani

(prohibition to naxals in village) and denied them food in the tehsil and Kondewahi too which is some 15 km from Kasansoor

police outpost.

The naxals slit the necks of two ex-naxals, who were their fellow dalam members, on Monday at

Kondewahi. Sources said around 25 armed naxalities dressed in dalam outfits reached Kondewahi at about 2.30 am on Monday.

They entered the house of Sainu Chamanna Gotha (37) and Ravi Komti Gotha (32) and took them to an adjacent jungle. The duo

were brutally thrashed and later their necks were slit with sharp weapons.

An offence has been registered

against 25 naxalites at sub-police station Kasansoor and Amol Tambe, SDPO has sent a search party to trace the rebels.

Terming the killings a gruesome act committed out of frustration, SP Gadchiroli Rajesh Pradhan said, "They surrendered some

two-and-half months back, after serving the naxal movement for many years, and were living peacefully in their village.

However, the naxalities could not tolerate their happiness. The incident has unveiled the real face of the

naxalites."

"While the higher cadre of the naxals live peacefully after surrendering, the lower surrendered

cadres are killed brutally. This reveals the discriminatory and dubious character of naxalism," Pradhan

added.
