Major I-T raid on business house

NAGPUR: Acting against one of the biggest business houses

of the region, the Income Tax department here raided the premises of Nairsons group, suspecting massive tax

evasion.
 
The group has interests in a slew of businesses, from coal services, healthcare, education to

information technology. Nair Coal is the flagship company, of which Udaybhaskar Nair is the chairman and Suresh Nair is

vice-chairman.
 
Tax sleuths raided 12 premises in four cities including Palakkad in Kerala from where this

business family hails. The other three cities are Nagpur, Bilaspur and Hyderabad.
 
A senior income tax official

confirmed the raids. The raids are expected to last for a couple of days. The Nairs' residence and office in Ramnagar,

Orange City hospital at Khamla, Narayana Vidyalayam School on Wardha Road and five other premises were targeted by IT

officials in Nagpur.
 
Sources said that so far some jewellery has been seized. Around 120 officials of the Income

Tax department were involved in the action.
 
The private clinic of Dr Jay Deshmukh, one of the six directors at

Orange City hospital, was also searched at Ramdaspeth. A family member of the Nairs said they were cooperating with the

slueths.
