NAGPUR: A summer camp at police station. True! And
exciting as well, as a bunch of 75 students discovered on Sunday at Koradi police station learning about self-loading rifles,
AK 47, AKM and gas guns.
The craze among the students to hold the sophisticated weapons in hand was to be seen
to be believed. Students, all in the age-group of 5-14 years, also participated in an interactive session with the senior
officers, especially assistant commissioner of police Anil Bobade. The students came to know how a police station
functions.
Juhi Kadbe, standard VI student of Jupiter Convent, was excited to hold the sophisticated gas gun in
her hand. "I was thrilled to hold a real gun. I had used a toy rifle in the past to shoot down the balloons, but today's
experience is really something," she said.
Another participant, 14-year-old Sandeep Shangokar, said, "All I knew
about police was the number 100 but today I saw how exactly the policemen work and how a police station functions," said
Shangokar.
The camp was organised by the local group Kalpak Kala Dalam. "Such camps will create awareness among
the students. They should fear the law and not the enforcing department," said senior PI Subhash
Mundewadikor.
